Just in time for the current summer season, SKODA Genuine Parts presents a new offering of bicycles and cycling clothes.

The current bike range by the Czech manufacturer impresses through its attractive design and perfect technology and ranges from bikes for children to those for trips in the city and the country up to professional racing bikes and carbon mountain bikes. The two-time cyclocross world champion Zdeněk Stybar is the ambassador and face of this collection of products. The new offering is available at all authorized SKODA dealers now.

The two-time cyclocross world champion Zdeněk Stybar will act as the ambassador and face of the new SKODA bikes. His opinion vouches for the quality of the collection: "The new offer is as varied as never before. There is something for every taste and every need. The latest technology paired with an attractive design – that's what people expect of SKODA. That is 'simply clever'," emphasizes Stybar, who has been dominating the cyclocross world championship during the past two years.

A total of seven bicycle types can be chosen from. The bikes were developed in cooperation by the company Superior. Clothes and accessories, bearing the new corporate logo for the first time, were developed by the company KalaS. Cycling friends have already been familiar with and appreciate the bikes made by SKODA Genuine Parts for a long time as this is already the ninth collection by the Czech manufacturer.

The brand thus underscores its close association with cycling, currently expressed through the sponsorship of the Tour de France and the Giro d'Italia, among others. From a historical viewpoint, SKODA has a particular relationship with bicycles anyway: In the year 1895, before the first automobile was built in Mladá Boleslav, company founders Laurin & Klement manufactured bicycles. The current, new top model by the Czechs is the mountain bike Super 2000. For the first time ever, a SKODA mountain bike has a carbon frame.

The design in the colors of the rally car Fabia Super 2000 pays homage to SKODA's victory in the rally series IRC (Intercontinental Rally Challenge) in 2010 and to the successes of the brand in the rally sport. The mountain bike Fabia Rs. also centers on the motor sports activities of the manufacturer and bears the name of the fastest street Fabia ever. Fans of demanding trips "in the rough" will receive a lot of enjoyment from the Fabia Rs. The mountain bike will be at home even on the most demanding terrain and is equipped with SRAM X-Z components.

Friends of street cycling will get their money's worth with the model Mont Ventoux. The name says it all and is a reference to the primary purpose of this high-tech bike. The weight of the bike amounts to only 7.9 kilogram. The light alloy frame and the front fork are made of carbon (Carbon UD). The use of high-quality brand components will make the heart of every cycling enthusiast beat faster. For the first time, SKODA offers a model in the category "city bike" – a type of bike that is particularly popular in Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

The bike with the name Tour convinces through comfort and liveliness, in particular regarding trips through town and over shorter distances. The designation "Tour" was chosen based of the popular vehicle Octavia Tour. Contrary to that, the cross model Octavia is more suitable for longer trips. But SKODA also has a two-wheel offer that is appropriate for children. The entry-level model is the children's bicycle My First SKODA. With its 20" wheels, the next higher model Race offers a perfect opportunity to switch to a larger model later.

Auto Sales Start to Slowdown in May 2011

The Automobile sector has started to show the effects of the increased interest rates. The RBI on May 3 announced a steep 50 basis points hike in key short-term rates. For the Automobile sector, the rising interest rates mean direct impact on their sales as loans for purchasing vehicles turn dearer.

It was anticipated that the auto companies would have a tough time navigating the coming months and quarters given that the high interest rate scenario, is here to stay for a while.

Automobile sales in India grew at a record 27% in the financial year ended March 31 to 15.51 million units but the industry expects the pace this year to be around 12%-15% due to the higher sales base.

Mr. Praful Patel, Honorable Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises said, “The Indian automobile market is one of the fastest growing markets in the world and is poised to grow at an unprecedented rate. As the Indian automobile industry grows, it will eventually be challenged with the need for reduction of energy consumption for environment protection. BMW Vision EfficientDynamics is a road ready technology showcase vehicle by BMW engineers and designers that illustrates a successful research and development strategy which holds tremendous potential for sustainable growth.”

BMW Vision EfficientDynamics is presented in India for the first time and will be exhibited at the new BMW Studio, Connaught Place, New Delhi till 24 May 2011.

Mr. Thomas Matussek, German Ambassador to India said, “The German automotive industry has been continuously progressing to secure a sustainable future with fuel saving engines, state of the art recycling techniques and greener production facilities. The German industry is proud to have BMW as one of the most sustainable car companies in the world who have pioneered CO² emission cuts and have next generation fuel efficiency standards in engines. I am glad to know that BMW is already engaged in developing ground breaking technologies which will define how cars of tomorrow will be conceptualized.”

1.24 metres high, the four-seater BMW Vision EfficientDynamics takes up the characteristic BMW shaping style, geared consistently towards aesthetic appeal and dynamic performance. Wing doors facilitate entry to both rows of seats, while extensive aerodynamic measures reduce the drag coefficient to 0.22.

The combination of a three-cylinder turbo diesel with a hybrid synchronous motor at the front axle and a full-hybrid engine at the rear axle enables an overall system output of 241 kW/328 bhp. The innovative design of the BMW ActiveHybrid technology allows performance figures at the level of a sports car, with just 4.8 seconds required for the sprint from 0 to 100 km/hr - with average fuel consumption of 26.5 km/ltr in the EU test cycle and a CO² emission rating of 99 gm/km.

This unique relation between dynamic performance and efficiency derives from the high level of efficiency of all engine components, intelligent linking of the power output of the three engines, as well as precisely controlled energy management including Brake Energy Regeneration. What is more, the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics is conceived as a plug-in hybrid. The especially designed lithium-polymer rechargeable battery housed centrally in a longitudinal chassis element can be fully charged at a conventional power socket within just two and half hours. The use of electrical energy alone permits zero-emissions motoring with a range of some 50 km, while a 24 ltr diesel tank extends the total action radius of the vehicle to up to 700 kms.

Speaking at the launch of the much-awaited Fluidic Verna sedan, Mr. H W Park, MD & CEO, HMIL, said, “The Verna has been a trendsetter since it was first launched in 2006. We are confident that the all-new Fluidic Verna will create a new benchmark and raise the bar for the upper mid size cars in India. The launch today further reinstates our commitment to provide the best-in-class design, quality and technology to our customers here.”

Present on the occasion of the new Verna launch was Mr. S.S. Yang, President & CEO, Hyundai Motor Company, South Korea.

DYNAMIC AND FUTURISTIC DESIGN:
The new Fluidic Verna pioneers a host of premium and futuristic design elements based on the Fluidic Sculpture Design Philosophy. The car’s futuristic design sports a coupe like side profile which is further refined by elegant and continuous character lines. On the front, the Fluidic Verna displays the next generation hexagonal grille, eagle eye headlamps with wide air dam and distinctive ‘L’ shaped fog lamps that enhances the overall look of the car.

Fluidic Sculpture design is further accentuated by premium features like chrome plated 2 tone rear garnish and stylish new tail lamp cluster. The 16-inch alloy wheels give the new Verna a bold new stance. Bold rear bumper (with reflectors) add on to the sporty look of the car.

The car boasts of features which are specially developed for India. The interiors have luxurious elements and textures including two-tone beige and black high gloss interiors with wood finish. One of the unique features of the Fluidic Verna is the cluster ionizer which improves the quality of air inside the cabin by producing ion-plasma that traps bacteria and other impurities and comes into operation automatically as the AC is switched on. The rear end of the car is fitted with dual chrome tipped exhaust which adds on to the sporty feel. The car also comes with the convenience of an audio hand remote that allows quick surfing though the options.

The fluidic design concept extends to the interiors too with a Y shaped crash pad and comfortable and spacious interior seating. The longer wheelbase (2570mm) generates ample leg space and the wide seats offer comfortable seating. The interiors feature an array of luxurious elements and textures including leather upholstery to give the car an elegant look and feel.

The centre front armrest comes with segment first sliding function, whereas both front and rear armrests have storage space for enhanced convenience. Other thoughtful convenience features for the driver include driver’s side front and rear power windows with auto down and time lag function, electrically adjustable and foldable mirrors, tilt steering, electro chromic inside rear view mirror and steering mounted audio controls and Bluetooth connectivity that minimizes driver’s effort.

In the new Fluidic Verna customers will enjoy unmatched audio experience. The car is loaded with fabulous infotainment system which supports Bluetooth connectivity and comes with features like Radio/CD/MP3/USB/Aux-in/i-Pod connectivity for unlimited music access. To make driving pleasurable in summers it has a Fully Automatic Temperature Control (FATC) system with a cooled glove-box.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION:
The new Fluidic Verna will be available with four engine options - 1.4 litre VTVT delivering 107PS@6300rpm of maximum power and 13.8Kgm@5000rpm of peak torque, the petrol 1.6 litre VTVT engine with 123PS@6300rpm maximum power and 15.8@4200rpm peak torque, the Common Rail diesel 1.4 litre CRDi with 90PS@4000rpm max power and 22.43kgm@1750 – 2750rpm of peak torque and the diesel 1.6 litre VGT CRDi, with range topping 128@4000rpm max power and 26.5kgm@1900-2750rpm of peak torque.

Both the 1.6 litre petrol and the diesel engines are mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission while the manual transmission option is available with all the four engine options. The super-efficient 1.4 litre petrol engine gives a mileage of 17.43 kmpl (ARAI figures) while the 1.4 litre diesel version clocks 23.5 kmpl making the new Fluidic Verna the most fuel-efficient car in the segment.

UNMATCHED CLASS LEADING SAFETY:
Hyundai has always led the way when it comes to ensuring safety and security in its vehicles. The new Fluidic Verna is packed with an array of necessary safety features and effective safety technologies to enable occupant’s safety. It has been awarded a Five Star Safety Rating by C-NCAP (China- New Car Assessment Program) making it one of the safest mid-size sedan.

The new Verna is equipped with first in class 6 airbags for occupant protection as a passive safety feature while the EBD (Electronic Brake force distribution and ABS (anti lock braking system) provide the much needed active safety systems to help the driver control the car better.

The philosophy of “Fluidic Sculpture” also guarantees safety and stability of the car. In order to ensure over-all strength and safety, the body of new Fluidic Verna is built with high strength steel. External features like a ring type structure in the centre pillar area provides more strength and protection against side impacts.

Hyundai is also the first to come up with Rear Parking Camera (with display on the inside rearview mirror) in the mid-size sedan segment along with reverse parking sensors which helps in ensuring safe and easy parking of the car.

One of the essential safety features brought in by Hyundai in this segment is the automatic unlocking of the door on collision which facilitates quick exit of the occupants. Speed sensing auto door lock prevents accidental opening of the door while moving which adds to unparallel safety while driving. The car is also equipped with a clutch lock system which adds to the safety of the car when parked.

The new Verna goes on sale immediately and will be available in a range of 6 exciting new colours with 8 trim options.

Jaguar C-X75 Hybrid Supercar Confirmed by Jaguar

Jaguar C-X75 Hybrid Supercar
Mixes internal combustion power with electric motors to achieve supercar performance and less than 99g/km CO2 emissions

Downsized highly boosted petrol engine with two powerful electric motors and four-wheel-drive

Jaguar C-X75 Hybrid Supercar Features:
- 0-60mph in less than 3 seconds
- 0-100mph in less than 6 seconds
- Top speed in excess of 200mph
- All-electric running range in excess of 50km
- True-to-concept, lightweight, all carbon-fibre chassis
- Groundbreaking association with Williams F1 - built in the UK
- Direct technology transfer from top-level motorsport
- Prices from £700,000 depending on local market and taxes
- Exclusive limited volume hybrid supercar - only 250 will be built

Jaguar can today confirm that it will launch the remarkable C-X75 concept car as an exclusive hybrid supercar.

Jaguar C-X75 will become the British marque's most advanced model to date. It will offer performance on a par with the fastest production cars on the market, while adopting cutting-edge technology that offers remarkably economical running. Jaguar expects this hybrid supercar to deliver incredibly low CO2 emissions of less than 99g/km while being able to achieve in excess of 200mph.

"People expect Jaguar to be innovators - that is when Jaguar is at its best," said Adrian Hallmark, Jaguar Brand Director. "The C-X75 received an incredible reception as a concept car. We've been building on that momentum and there is a clear business case for this exclusive halo model. No other vehicle will better signify Jaguar's renewed confidence and excellence in technological innovation than this."

Project C-X75 will be the ultimate expression of Jaguar design and engineering innovation. This high-performance hybrid supercar will stay true to the initial concept design study that made its debut at the 2010 Paris motor show, while fulfilling requirements that allow it to be homologated for road use.

"We were always determined that the Jaguar C-X75 would be as striking on the road as it was in concept form," said Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar Cars. "This will be the finest looking and most innovative Jaguar ever produced. Even in the world of supercars, we can still produce the most beautiful."

In an unprecedented move, Jaguar C-X75 will be developed in association with Williams F1 who will provide their engineering expertise in areas including aerodynamics, carbon composite manufacture and hybrid technologies. This association will be at the leading edge of British automotive engineering and innovation.

"Confirmation of this project today signposts Jaguar Land Rover's continued determination to embrace new technologies," said Jaguar Land Rover CEO, Dr Ralf Speth. "A supercar like the C-X75 is the logical choice to showcase cutting-edge design, intelligent use of new environmental technologies and motorsport-inspired performance."

It also marks a new milestone in both company's histories as Jaguar Land Rover and Williams collaborate for the first time to produce one of the world's highest performance and environmentally sustainable supercars. The production of Jaguar C-X75 will create more than one hundred highly-skilled jobs in the UK.

A direct technology transfer between elite motorsport and road-going production cars is key to C-X75's success. The supercar's chassis will be made of carbon-fibre to create an incredibly lightweight, yet rigidly strong structure.

Aiding the transition from concept to production vehicle is the choice of powertrain. Jaguar continues to develop the use of the micro-turbine technology that was showcased in the original concept C-X75. Jaguar's parent company Tata has taken a significant stake in Bladon Jets, and will develop this very advanced technology as a medium-term aspiration that will play a part in Jaguars of the future.

To bring Project C-X75 to showroom reality within the timescales of a conventional model programme, an equally innovative powertrain had to be developed. The road-going supercar will use a state-of-the-art, small-capacity, highly-boosted internal combustion engine with one powerful electric motor at each axle.

"The engine's compact size allows it to be mounted low in the car for optimum weight distribution and to retain the concept's stunning silhouette. This will make the Jaguar C-X75 a bona fide hybrid supercar capable of silent electric running with an extensive EV range in excess of 50km," explained Bob Joyce, Group Engineering Director, Jaguar Land Rover.

When C-X75's motors and combustion engine combine, it will be one of the

fastest production cars in the world, with a sub-three second 0-60mph time and a top speed in excess of 200mph. Crucially, this performance will be generated alongside incredibly low emissions, with a target of less than 99g/km CO2, thanks to Project C-X75's lightweight construction and cutting-edge powertrain technology.

Williams F1 has been at the forefront of motorsport engineering for three decades. The project engagement on Jaguar C-X75 is testament to the team's ambitions and will bring together two leading lights of the UK motoring industry.

"Our new association with Jaguar Land Rover provides us with an exciting opportunity to work with one of the motoring world's most famous and iconic brands," said Sir Frank Williams, Chairman of Williams F1. "Williams has always considered itself an engineering company and so this project will allow us to combine our technical expertise to create something truly exceptional."

Jaguar C-X75 will redefine the customer experience, and will set new standards in sales and after-sales services that will be recreated across the range in the future. Only 250 examples will be built, each costing between £700,000 - £900,000 depending on market and local taxes.

"Never before has the company launched such an ambitious, world-beating vehicle programme," said Carl-Peter Forster, CEO Tata Motors. "This is the Jaguar of the future. The opportunity for innovation like this in the UK is part of the reason Tata Motors invested in Jaguar, and it's fantastic that products like the C-X75 can become reality."

Top Used Cars: Best 10 Used Cars for You

Since car sales have been on a high in the past year, moving up briskly since the 2008 economic downturn, it has directly affected the used car market. Now, more cars are ending up for resale at a much faster pace, which is why it's the right time to haggle for the best bargains.

With car prices set to soar in the new year, it's a good time to scrounge around for discounts and deals. If, however, you are driven by the desire for higher savings, you can opt for a pre-owned car. You will not only have the satisfaction of owning a vehicle but, more importantly, at a much lesser price.

Since car sales have been on a high in the past year, moving up briskly since the 2008 economic downturn, it has directly affected the used car market. Now, more cars are ending up for resale at a much faster pace, which is why it's the right time to haggle for the best bargains. Here's a look at cars in different segments, all under Rs. 10 lakh, to help you decide which one to pick. You can get an even lower price depending on the mileage and car's condition.

1. Hyundai Santro

The best small car not to sport a Maruti badge. A perfect combination of fuel efficiency, reliability and enough torque for driving around the city.

Why should I buy? Because everyone has a Maruti and you don't want one. It has a better build and features than other cars in this price segment and the Korean manufacturer has proved itself on reliability over the past decade.

Is it fuel-efficient? In one word, yes. It gives a mileage of about 14 km per litre (kmpl) in the city. The Hyundai service network is second only to Maruti's and the spare parts are cheap too.

How is the ride? The ride quality isn't the best, but is par for the course. It has ample headroom, though the rear seat isn't very comfortable.

Will it break the bank? Prices are on the lower side and you can easily find a two-year old model in good condition.

2. Hyundai i10

The second hatchback option also comes from Hyundai's stable. It was launched as Santro's replacement and is made in India for global usage.

Why should I buy? Because Santro is too old and the i10 looks sleeker. It also has a more powerful engine and comes loaded with accessories.

Is it fuel-efficient? Yes, again. The Kappa model will run about 16 km per litre, while the older 1.1 iRDE model will give you 14 km.

How is the ride? It has a good suspension, which ensures a smooth ride on bumpy roads. For a small car, it's also quite stable at high speeds.

Will it break the bank? It's a well-built car and offers value for money. The launch of the latest version of the 1.2 Kappa model means you might get the older one for even less.

3. Maruti Swift

The best big hatchback. It's fun to drive, good to look at and fuel-efficient. Though it has been five years since its launch, there's still a waiting period for the car.

Why should I buy? A good option if you want a spacious hatchback while sticking to the Maruti family.

Is it fuel-efficient? The petrol model offers a mileage of 12 kmpl, while for the diesel one, it is almost 16 kmpl. The Maruti service network is the most widespread and is known for the easily available, cheap spare parts.

How is the ride? It's a sporty car and comfortable to drive. Rear passengers may find the space a little constricted. Avoid buying a tuned or modified car as it could be rife with problems.

Will it break the bank? Maruti's star performer will give you good value for your money.

4. Maruti Alto

If words like 'fuel efficiency' and 'no frills' appear on your priority list, it's the car to go for.

Why should I buy? Because you want a reliable, timetested vehicle without straining your wallet.

Is it fuel-efficient? The puny engine's fuel requirement is lower compared with other cars and you can extract as much as 18 kmpl from it. Maintenance is Maruti's forte and the after-sales service is good.

How is the ride? The Alto isn't very spacious and its seats are not the most supportive. However, the small size is a boon in metros where parking hassles are aplenty.

Will it break the bank? Not at all. However, make sure you don't buy one which has clocked too many miles.

5. Chevrolet Spark

In 2007, Chevrolet resurrected the Daewoo Matiz as the Spark, retaining the same lines. The latter's USP has been its reasonable price.

Why should I buy? Because it's cheap, and if you buy a recent model, you could avail of the threeyear free maintenance package that Chevrolet offers on new cars.

Is it fuel-efficient? The Spark can run 15 km on a litre of petrol and the 'no maintenance charge' offer is also financially attractive. Spare parts are affordable too.

How is the ride? The peppy engine makes it easy to handle the car. However, the seats are cramped and can comfortably seat only four passengers.

Will it break the bank? Not if you buy a relatively new model. However, make sure that the car hasn't been abused by the previous owner. There is a tendency to drive a car hard and carelessly because it's cheap to buy and run.

6. Tata Indica

The first hatchback from Tata Motors captivated the audience when it was first shown at the 1998 Auto Expo and has witnessed a number of upgrades.

Why should I buy? Because you need a diesel vehicle for highways and don't have the money for a Swift. The Turbo has a turbocharged diesel engine, which provides more power.

Is it fuel-efficient? The Xeta petrol gives a mileage of almost 12 kmpl, the diesel version gives 14 kmpl, and for the Turbo, it is about 13 kmpl.

How is the ride? Opt for the diesel car if you can live with the cheap plastic and engine noise. It is very comfortable and the ride quality is good.

Will it break the bank? The diesel version won't.

7. Honda City

The best petrol-powered sedan in India, it's three generations old but shows no sign of slackening. The second generation car was launched in 2004 and is now easily available as a pre-owned vehicle.

Why should I buy? Because the Honda brand commands respect internationally. The second generation sedan is one of the most comfortable.

Is it fuel-efficient? The engine is powerful and frugal, giving about 12 kmpl in the city and 17 kmpl on the highway.

How is the ride? It is spacious, with a 500-litre boot, and the quality of plastic is very good.

Will it break the bank? If you drive more than 100 km a day, a diesel car would be a better buy.

8. Skoda Octavia

Skoda's first offering in India was launched in 2001 and gave it the luxury image and brand loyalty which rival that of a Honda.

Why should I buy? Because it leads the pack when it comes to smooth ride and handling.

Is it fuel-efficient? The 90 bhp, 1.9-litre TDI diesel engine is very efficient and gives a mileage of about 13 kmpl.

How is the ride? The build quality is one of the best and the ride and handling are smooth. It's very spacious with a 560-litre boot.

Will it break the bank? The diesel model offers more value than the petrol version due to the lower running cost. However, this version is more likely to have run a fair bit too.

9. Mahindra Scorpio

The first modern SUV from Mahindra was launched in 2002 and has been upgraded regularly.

Why should I buy? Because it's bigger than a sedan and seats more people in comfort than a three-box. The butch design has been selling well, even in the used car market.

Is it fuel-efficient? Diesel cost means that even a low efficiency of 7 kmpl with the old engine won't pinch. The mHawk is only a little more efficient at 8 kmpl. Buy a relatively recent model, if possible, and preferably the mHawk, which has an updated cabin.

How is the ride? The extra room is a boon, especially for long trips. There is also an automatic gearbox that you can install, but finding one is difficult.

Will it break the bank? Not if you opt for an older model, though even the oldest mHawk model costs more than the newer other versions.

10. Ford Endeavour

The XXXL SUV is among the few luxury diesel SUVs available in India. Its extra wide tyres make it one of the best vehicles for off-road driving.

Why should I buy? Opt for it only if you plan to go dune bashing or exploring jungles. Or if you want to intimidate others on the road.

Is it fuel-efficient? Again, the low cost of diesel helps to curb running costs. However, the 2.5-litre diesel version will barely run 8 kmpl, while the 3-litre one will give 7 kmpl.

How is the ride? The large proportions mean there is no dearth of space and seven people can fit in easily.

Will it break the bank? The older models will be cheaper, while the 4WD 3-litre SUV will be expensive.
