Lower Growth for Auto Industry in Early 2011-12

The production data for April 2011 shows production growth of 20.28 percent over same period last year. The industry produced 1,626,675 vehicles in April 2011 as against 1,352,354 in April 2010.

Domestic Sales
The Overall growth in domestic sales in the month of April 2011 was 22.80 percent over same period last year.
Passenger Vehicles segment grew at 14.00 percent during April 2011 over same month last year. Passenger Cars grew by 13.18 percent, Utility Vehicles grew by 6.25 percent and Vans grew by 37.39 percent in April 2011 as compared to same month last year.

The overall Commercial Vehicles segment registered growth of 8.22 percent in April 2011 as compared to the same month last year. While Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) registered only a marginal growth rate of 0.70 percent, Light Commercial Vehicles grew at 14.43 percent.
Three Wheelers sales recorded a growth rate of only 1.94 percent in April 2011.Passenger Carriers shown negative growth at (-2.11) percent in April 2011 and Goods Carriers registered growth of 16.62 percent in April 2011.
Two Wheelers registered a healthy growth of 26.44 percent in April 2011. Mopeds, Motorcycles and Scooters grew by 15.68 percent, 23.39 percent and 48.06 percent respectively in April 2011.
Exports
In the month of April 2011 overall automobile exports registered a growth rate of 29.62 percent. Passenger Vehicles registered growth at 12.66 percent in the month. Commercial Vehicles, Three Wheelers and Two Wheelers segments recorded growth of 36.01 percent, 36.95 percent and 32.77 percent respectively in April 2011.
Introduction of SIAM New Vehicle Classifications
From this month, SIAM is using new vehicle classifications for Passenger Vehicles & Commercial Vehicles.
There are major changes in passenger cars, Utility Vehicles and MPVs (now being called as Vans). Also changes have been affected in LCVs & M&HCVs goods carriers.

Auto Industry Ends 2010-11 on a Positive Note

The cumulative production data for April-March 2011 shows production growth of 27.45 percent over same period last year. In March 2011 as compared to March 2010, production grew at 20.62 percent. The industry produced 17,916,035 million vehicles of which share of two wheelers, passenger vehicles, three wheelers and commercial vehicles were 75 percent, 17 percent, 4 percent and 4 percent respectively.
Domestic Sales:
The growth rate recorded for Domestic Sales for 2010-11 was 26.17 percent amounting to 15,513,156 vehicles. However, the month of March 2011 registered a lower growth rate of 19.42 percent as compared to the cumulative data of 2010-11.
Passenger Vehicles segment grew at 29.16 percent during April-March 2011 over same period last year. Passenger Cars grew by 29.73 percent, Utility Vehicles grew by 18.87 percent and Multi-Purpose Vehicles grew by 42.10 percent in this period. In March 2011 figures for domestic sales of Passenger Cars show a growth of 24.37 percent over the same month last year which is lower than 2010-11 growth. Also, sales of total passenger vehicle in the month of March 2011 at 23.13 percent (as compared to March 2010) were lower than growth rate of 2010-11.
The overall Commercial Vehicles segment registered growth of 26.97 percent during April-March 2011 as compared to the same period last year. While Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) registered growth of 31.78 percent, Light Commercial Vehicles grew at 22.88 percent. However, the sales in the month of March 2011 over March 2010 was substantially lower with growth of only 15 percent.
Three Wheelers sales recorded a growth rate of 19.44 percent in April-March 2011. While Passenger Carriers grew by 22.03 percent during April-March 2011, Goods Carriers registered growth of 9.45 percent.
Two Wheelers registered a growth of 25.82 percent during April-March 2011. Mopeds, Motorcycles and Scooters grew by 23.53 percent, 22.86 percent and 41.79 percent respectively.
If we compare March 2011 to March 2010, the growth figures for three and two wheelers are also lower at 14.36 percent and 19.14 percent respectively.
Exports:
During April-March 2011, overall automobile exports registered a growth rate of 29.64 percent. Passenger Vehicles registered marginal growth at 1.64 percent in this period. Commercial Vehicles, Three Wheelers and Two Wheelers segments recorded growth of 69.51 percent, 55.86 percent and 35.04 percent respectively during April-March 2011.
In March 2011 compared to March 2010, overall automobile exports registered a lower growth of 19.64 percent.

New Government Rule on CKD to Hurt High-End Ears: SIAM

The cumulative sales data for April-February 2011 shows domestic sales growth of 26.92 % over same period last year. In February 2011 as compared to February 2010, domestic sales grew at 21.32 %.

Domestic Sales:
Passenger Vehicles segment grew at 29.85 % during April-February 2011 over same period last year. Passenger Cars grew by 30.34 %, Utility Vehicles grew by 19.69 % and Multi-Purpose Vehicles grew by 43.28 % in this period. February 2011 figures for domestic sales of Passenger Cars show a growth of only 22.63 % over the same month last year. However, in absolute numbers, this segment recorded highest ever sales. Total passenger vehicle sales figures for February 2011 compared to February 2010 shows growth stands at 20.88 %.

The overall Commercial Vehicles segment registered growth of 28.65 % during April-February 2011 as compared to the same period last year. While Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) registered growth of 34.18 %, Light Commercial Vehicles grew at 24.08 %. In contrast to the last February sales figures, February 2011 registered a growth of only 10 %.

Three Wheelers sales recorded a growth rate of 19.96 % in April-February 2011. While Passenger Carriers grew by 22.39 % during April-February 2011, Goods Carriers registered growth of 10.31 %.

Two Wheelers registered a growth of 26.55 % during April-February 2011. Mopeds, Motorcycles and Scooters grew by 23.79 %, 23.30 % and 44.40 % respectively.

If we compare February 2011 to February 2010, the growth figures for three and two wheelers are at 24.03 % and 22.04 % respectively.

Exports:
During April-February 2011, overall automobile exports registered a growth rate of 30.62 %. Passenger Vehicles registered decline and the growth rate was (-) 0.86 % in this period. Commercial Vehicles, Three Wheelers and Two Wheelers segments recorded growth of 72.82 %, 59.29 % and 36.97 % respectively during April-February 2011.

In February 2011 compared to February 2010, overall automobile exports registered a growth of 27.57 %

Automobile Industry Growth Rate Moderates: SIAM

The cumulative production data for April-September 2010 shows a slight moderation in the overall production growth which clocked 31.06 percent over same period last year.

Domestic Sales:
All Passenger Vehicles segment during April-September 2010 grew at 32.91 percent over same period last year. However, growth rate till April-August 2010 was 33.88 percent indicating a marginal moderation in the growth rate.

Passenger Cars grew by 33.58 percent, Utility Vehicles grew by 20.69 percent and Multi Purpose Vehicles grew by 49.32 percent during this period. Here again, there has been a marginal moderation in the growth rates which stood at 34.32 percent, 22.56 percent and 50.68 percent respectively during April-August 2010.

The overall Commercial Vehicles segment registered a more moderated growth of 41.59 percent during April-September 2010 as compared to the same period last year. While Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) registered growth of 61.59 percent, Light Commercial Vehicles grew at 26.90 percent. However, till August 2010 Commercial Vehicles were growing at 44.75 percent.

Three Wheelers sales recorded a growth rate of 19.87 percent in April-September 2010 as against 20.15 percent till August 2010. While Passenger Carriers grew by 24.18 percent during April-September 2010, Goods Carriers registered marginal growth of 2.54 percent.

Two Wheelers registered a growth of 25.86 percent during April-September 2010. Mopeds, Scooters and Motorcycles grew by 23.13 percent, 44.95 percent and 22.52 percent respectively. Here again, there is again a drop in growth rate from April-August 2010 when the growth rate was 27.22 percent.

Exports:
During April-September 2010, overall automobile exports registered a growth rate of 43.61 percent. Again this is lower than 48.42 percent registered during April-August 2010.

Passenger Vehicles segment grew marginally by 1.48 percent in this period. Commercial Vehicles, Three Wheelers and Two Wheelers segments recorded growth of 84.01 percent, 99.99 percent and 52.33 percent respectively during April-September 2010.
