Automobile Industry Growth Rate Moderates: SIAM

The cumulative production data for April-September 2010 shows a slight moderation in the overall production growth which clocked 31.06 percent over same period last year.

Domestic Sales:
All Passenger Vehicles segment during April-September 2010 grew at 32.91 percent over same period last year. However, growth rate till April-August 2010 was 33.88 percent indicating a marginal moderation in the growth rate.

Passenger Cars grew by 33.58 percent, Utility Vehicles grew by 20.69 percent and Multi Purpose Vehicles grew by 49.32 percent during this period. Here again, there has been a marginal moderation in the growth rates which stood at 34.32 percent, 22.56 percent and 50.68 percent respectively during April-August 2010.

The overall Commercial Vehicles segment registered a more moderated growth of 41.59 percent during April-September 2010 as compared to the same period last year. While Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) registered growth of 61.59 percent, Light Commercial Vehicles grew at 26.90 percent. However, till August 2010 Commercial Vehicles were growing at 44.75 percent.

Three Wheelers sales recorded a growth rate of 19.87 percent in April-September 2010 as against 20.15 percent till August 2010. While Passenger Carriers grew by 24.18 percent during April-September 2010, Goods Carriers registered marginal growth of 2.54 percent.

Two Wheelers registered a growth of 25.86 percent during April-September 2010. Mopeds, Scooters and Motorcycles grew by 23.13 percent, 44.95 percent and 22.52 percent respectively. Here again, there is again a drop in growth rate from April-August 2010 when the growth rate was 27.22 percent.

Exports:
During April-September 2010, overall automobile exports registered a growth rate of 43.61 percent. Again this is lower than 48.42 percent registered during April-August 2010.

Passenger Vehicles segment grew marginally by 1.48 percent in this period. Commercial Vehicles, Three Wheelers and Two Wheelers segments recorded growth of 84.01 percent, 99.99 percent and 52.33 percent respectively during April-September 2010.
